Measurement Nugget style- Thanks to Mike Nelson

How tall do you think you are in nuggets? To begin with, have students estimate how tall they think they are in nuggets. The next step is for students to begin to measure themselves. Obviously, its a bit expensive (and non-hygenic) to use actual chicken nuggets to measure with, so you will need to measure the height of an actual nugget or find something equivalent in size.

Once students have measured themselves, pose the following question: Using the 6 pack price from Schnitz, how much would it cost to measure yourself? To gather rich formative assessment, don’t immediately instruct students how to work it out. How students approach this problem will demonstrate their level of understanding of multiplication and division.

Some students will use repeated addition, some will use basic division whilst others will ratios. This is a great opportunity to explore the most efficient way to calculate the cost of the nuggets.
