Zig Zag lines- Length

Place two pieces of masking tape on the floor. Make one straight and the other zig zag. How can we measure this?

I DO:

Use a piece of string to measure the zig zag line. 

Place unifix along the piece of string to show how long the piece of string is. Model how there are no gaps.

WE DO

Give kids a piece of string each. Make this into a zig zag. With a partner, predict who has the longest piece of string.

Now using unifix to measure the length.

Give kids an A3 piece of paper and draw a line. Now measure your line.
