Rule up a table in your book to show your findings.

Eg. 4 steps will be 4 x 4 = 16 blocks needed.

No up and down stairs, just up. Is there a pattern?

What is the 10th term, 15th etc. can you work it out without making or drawing the steps? Record your results in a table like the one below. 

En – will need to build/draw the steps to calculate.

• Explain how you would work out the number of blocks needed to build a staircase with any number of steps.
