Mass- Weights of fruit and vegetables

When I go and do my grocery shopping, lots of fruit and vegetables are sold and charged by the gram or kilogram.

Look at the table of the ‘Average Weights and vegetables’ to solve problems. Remind students to only look at the first and last columns ie the name of the fruit or veg and the weight in grams or kg.

Enabling: Work with a partner or only have 2 or 3 columns. Divide double page of Maths book into columns ie less than 100g, 100-200g, 250-500g, 1kg , more than 1kg and list (and draw) items under each column.

Extending: Pose different problems for them to solve.Eg how many different combinations of fruit and vegetables can make up 1kg

– Add diiiferent things together that make up eg 100g, 500g, 1kg, 2kg

– How many apples can I get for 1 kg if 1 apple is 195g?

 

-Which different fruits and vegetables can I get that make up 500kg, 1kg, 2kg?
