Elapsed Time activities

To be able to calculate elapsed time.

Refer to Time Week 1 PP.

Explain to the students that they will estimate 10, 30 and 60 seconds. Using a timer, students start standing up with their eyes closed and sit down when they think 10 secs has passed. Repeat for 30 secs and 1 min. Discuss.

Display the elapsed time problems. Students attempt to solve them mentally first, before using the number line strategy in their maths books. They need to show this working out in their books.
