Farmers’ Market- Chance Activity
We are running a stall at the Farmers’ Market where for $1, customers can spin the wheel, and win a $5 Farmers’ Market voucher if it lands on a particular outcome.
Show examples of this. Do a few rolls, and track how many times it takes for each pay out.
After a while, people stop playing, because they don’t like the odds to win. To entice more people in, you allow them to choose any TWO outcomes for a win.
How might we calculate the odds of them winning now?
Allow students to brainstorm possible ways to answer the question.
Show that it is the same for subtraction of fractions.
Students to work out all possible combinations of their spinners.
