Teacher shows kids how to make the number into tens and ones- physically model this with MAB into a tens and ones t chart.
Now show this in a different way and model how I can move . e.g. 22 can be 1 ten and 12 ones. Physically move this with MAB
We Do- Students have their own set of tens and ones. Create a tens and ones house. Now complete the same process for the number 44. Once sorted into tens and ones, then have a go at renaming. Do this step by step helping individual students.
