I can name the numbers to 5

I can count collections to 5 (1:1 correspondence)

Activate prior knowledge of counting to 5 and 1:1 correspondence using different representations e.g. tap 5 times on your knee, clap 5 times.

Take 5 Unifix, hold up cubes one at a time and model 1:1 counting. Each student then takes 5 Unifix and counts aloud, touching or moving each one they count.

How many ways can you show 5, using Unifix? (provide students with a pile of Unifix so that they have to practice 1:1 counting each time)
