Sharing food

Cutting into equal parts to share into 2 groups – model this using paper shapes, and also some real applications (pizza, chocolate bar etc) to cut triangles, circles, squares etc into equal parts. Model ‘unequal’ cutting of the shape too. Could extend to use the language of ‘half’.

Provide students with some shape cut outs to have a go.

Students now cut the pictures of food, to share the food onto two plates. 

Ext: what if there were 3 people at the picnic – can you cut the food into 3 equal parts?
