Classifying Shapes

Odd one out:

Odd one out

Entry Ticket: Go around and see what kids know:

Place various 2D and 3D shapes on the tables. In groups students sort and classify the shapes into different groups.

E.g.

Has parallel sides

Has right angles

Has more than four sides

Has equal sides

Has curved surfaces

Has triangular faces

Write down how you have classified the shapes and why?

Have a walk through to the various groups as to how students have classified the shapes in different ways using maths vocab. Write a list of maths vocab on the board e.g. parallel, perpendicular, face, edge and vertex.

Explain any misconceptions and for each vocab word you come up with demonstrate the meaning with either the 2D or 3D shapes.
