Online shopping – fractions

Your family has just received their online shopping order, and needs you to help put the fruit and veggies away. 

1.Draw a lay out of your kitchen in your maths book eg. where the fridge is, fruit bowl, and pantry. 

  1. You have received:
  • 10 oranges
  • 12 apples 
  • 12 potatoes 
  • 10 onions 
  • 1 punnet of strawberries 
  • 6 bananas
  1. These are the instructions your mum or dad gives you, draw in your book where everything would go in your kitchen. 
  • ½ the oranges in the fruit bowl, ½ in the fridge
  • ¼ apples in the fruit bowl, ¾ in the fridge
  • ¼  potatoes in the cupboard, ¼  on the bench to cook for dinner, ½ in the fridge 
  • ½ onions in cupboard, ½ on the bench to cook for dinner
  • 1 whole punnet of strawberries in the fridge
  • ½ bananas in the fruit bowl, ½ in the fridge

Extension:

Change  numbers to be 1/3 and 1/8’s

  • ⅓ the oranges in the fruit bowl, ⅔  in the fridge
  • ¼ apples in the fruit bowl, ¾ in the fridge
  • 2/8 potatoes in the cupboard, ⅛  on the bench to cook for dinner, the remaining potatoes in the fridge 
  • ½ onions in cupboard, ½ on the bench to cook for dinner
  • 1 whole punnet of strawberries in the fridge
  • ⅓ bananas in the fruit bowl, ⅔  in the fridge
