How could I spend exactly $20 at the supermarket?

Use an online Coles catalogue or a hard copy catalogue to purchase items and calculate costs. Students can use vertical addition or number line as explicitly taught to solve.

Enabling:

Use lower money amounts – $10. Choose whole numbers with no decimals.

Extending:

1. Higher total $40 and must buy at least 6 different items.

2. Out of the $40 you get 50c change. 

3. Out of the $40 you get 75c change.

4. One of the items  was 25% off, how much did you save on that item?

5. Another item  was 75% off, how much did you save on that item?
