Counting by 5’s

Ask a yes/no question for your grade to answer. eg Do you like icecream? Use tally marks to record the answers. Discuss how they are groups of 5. 

Counting by 5’s is a quick way to count things.

Ask the grade “How many fingers are in our class?”

How can we figure it out? 

Discuss how many people are in the grade. 

How many times can you catch the ball? Create a tally with a friend.

How many times can you bounce the ball in a row? Create a tally. 

It is easier to count by 5’s than by 1’s. Discuss
