Jumping the River
Your teacher is going to do a big jump.
Invite kids to come and see if they can jump your river.
How can we record this information?
Introduce the kids to tally marks
Jumping a river.
Put a chalk mark as to where you start your river jump. Jump and make a mark at the end of your foot.
Your partner now jumps the river ten times.
record Yes/No with tally marks.
Swap over and repeat.
Can you record the information in a different way?
Enabling:
1.Give students a tally sheet.
2.Give a smiley face and sad face.
3. Give kids 2 colour counters to represent yes and no.
Extending:
Students represent their findings using objects around the classroom (counters, blocks etc)
