Planning a camping trip

I can work with a budget to plan a camping trip.

Talk about what a budget is. Use the example from last week, and how they had their own stalls. They only had $10 to spend. Budgeting involves considering needs and wants and how to ensure you do not spend more money than you have (unless you have a credit card 🙂)

Explain the money project to the students. They should do this in pairs – suggest choosing these pairs beforehand and partnering mixed ability students.

Extending: If you have any students that are really high, everything is 15% off!!! They can work on their own.

Enabling: If you prefer you can give them a shopping catalogue and a budget of 20.00 to purchase something for dinner, lunch and breakfast for one day. 

Use play money to assist adding amounts together.
