Money – warm up
I have the same amount of money in each pocket. In my left pocket I have 2 coins and in my right I have 6 coins.
Eg
30c (20c + 10c) and 30 c (6 x 5c).
$2 ($1 + $1) and $2 (2 x 20c, 3 x 50c and 1 x 10c)
Do one example first to model and show using number line to add amounts together. What other strategies could we use?
Have students on the floor using a whiteboard and practising the skill together.
