Icy Pole Place Value

Launch:

Use icy pole sticks – make different numbers.

Place a rubber band around ten. If I had a ten plus 4 more what number would I have. Continue for a few more numbers.

Explore:

Roll 3 dice together- Count the dots. Now with icy pole sticks and rubber bands make the number.

Record in one more different way of your choice.

Enabling- numbers under ten.

Two dice only.

If rubber band is too tricky build with unifix.

Extension- Roll 6 dice and add them together. Represent their answer using bundles of 10 and 1s.
